One of the greatest parts of the festival is the yearly Scarecrow Contest. This year will be the 18th Annual Scarecrow Contest and the goal is to fill up Market Square with a gallery of fun and inventive scare crows. The contest will be judged on Sunday from 12:00-2:00 pm, people’s choice. So hurry up and get your entries ready!
Just because the clock will be going back an hour in November does not mean that fall is a time for slowing down, especially in Newburyport. The 9th Annual Newburyport Half Marathon and Relay is Sunday, October 20th. The race is set to take runners on an out and back loop starting and ending near the towns, Cashman Park. A truly stunning course, the race is set alongside the water and goes through the towns beautiful tree lined historic neighborhoods. No matter where you are standing to cheer on the runners you will be sure to have a great view. After the race there will be plenty of food, beer and music, the event this year will be sponsored by Samuel Adams.
Do not fret if you are not able to make The Newburyport Half Marathon, the 4th annual Harborside Half Marathon & 5k is coming back to Newburyport on November 10th. The course is boasted to be the North Shore’s most scenic road race. Once you finish, celebrate with an after party sponsored by Ipswich Ale craft beer.
Downtown Newburyport and the Tannery will be filled with witches, ghosts and vampires for the town’s annual Witches’ Night Out! An event that grows in popularity each year in Newburyport; enjoy a fun night of shopping, drinks and snacks at the local Newburyport retailers. Witches Night Out 2019 takes place on Friday, October 18th from 6:00-9:00pm. Don’t miss out on the Adult Costume Contest for Witches and Warlocks!
Downtown Newburyport will also be the trick-or-treating destination for families on October 25th from 4:00-5:00pm. Newburyport Downtown & Tannery Trick or Treat is perfect especially for families with small children as a way to introduce their little ones to Halloween traditions. Families are encouraged to come show off their costumes and enjoy treats from the local retailers.
