Happy June everybody! With summer upon us, the oncoming heat means plenty of relaxing outdoors and soaking up the sunshine. At Newburyport Landing, residents are privy to an idyllic seaside view that many can enjoy from the comfort of their own back porches. Book – Educated by Tara Westover

According to the New York Times Book Club, Educated is “one of the most talked-about and critically acclaimed books of the year.” In her memoir, Westover recounts living with her survivalist parents and six siblings in the mountains of Idaho without formal education or medicine. She began to educate herself and went on to go to Brigham Young University, where she learned about the world and its complex history. This book has been on the NYT bestseller list for over a year and is guaranteed to give you a fresh perspective.

Like most libraries, Newburyport Public Library is a cornerstone of the community it serves. It is a hub of knowledge, culture, and social connections that allow Newburyport residents to feel interconnected as well as access to thousands of books, articles, movies, and music. Their website has news on events, reader’s guides, and the many amenities and services the library provides.

Book – Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane

This story follows two NYPD rookies who are assigned to the same precinct in 1973. They become neighbors outside of the city, and their families interact in complex ways that will set the stage for stunning future events. One of the families has to move away as a result, thus separating the two children who had become close friends. The story will follow their paths – which eventually directed both back to each other – and the ways in which their childhood impacted their adulthood as well as their perceptions of innocence and blame.

Book – The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Originally founded in 1886 as a children’s library and local activities center for all residents in and around Newburyport, the library holds the same philanthropic and community-oriented spirit as its founder Emma Andrews – a schoolteacher. There are different events at the center oriented towards either children or adults, so the whole family will be pleasantly entertained if they want a break from reading!
