The Merrimack River – It’s in your sights!

What would you be looking at while gazing outside your living or master bedroom windows or your private deck/yard at Newburyport Landing? You would be looking out at the picture perfect views of Southeastern portion of the Merrimack River, a 177 mile long body of water that originates in New Hampshire and flows into Massachusetts where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean near Plum Island (www.newburyport.com/plum-island).

What’s in the river you ask? Well, it contains vital salt marshes that you can also see from your luxury townhome. The banks of the river (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/merrimack_river) contain these marshes –part of the state’s Great Marsh which extends from Cape Ann to New Hampshire border, comprising the largest stretch of salt marsh in New England. Some of the species that breed or visit this ecosystem include: the Bald Eagle, Salt Marsh Sparrow, Atlantic Sturgeon, Short Nose Sturgeon and Atlantic Striped Bass.

To see this up close, you could venture out onto the River on your boat that is conveniently docked at one of the many boat clubs along Merrimac Street, or you could decide to carry out and launch your kayak from Cashman Park public launch (www.newburyport.com) which is located next to the townhome community.  Maybe it’s simply taking in the view from your luxury waterfront townhome private deck or greenspace. Whatever you decide….you are sure to enjoy this vital natural habitat that is part of the Newburyport Landing lifestyle.
